About Us
The YMCA understands that each child is unique and has his or her own rate of development. Our programs provide opportunities and experiences that stimulate each child’s physical, social, intellectual and emotional development in an asset rich environment. Programs are carefully designed to meet the developmental and individual needs of children ages 2 ½ to 5 and potty trained participating in the program. Programs focus on social development and character development for every child. There are frequent and positive opportunities for parents to be involved.
The YMCA provides a safe environment with structured and self-select activities appropriate to preschool settings. Children are allowed to learn through play, both individually and in groups. Every program strives to facilitate the development of a positive set of values in each child that will carry with them through life; to teach each child to relate to others in a way that is comfortable, respectful and reflects appreciation for individual differences; and to develop a positive self-image through a variety of experiences… all in a fun, supportive, and safe environment.
As a member of the YMCA of San Diego County Child Development Program Team, each YMCA staff member accepts the responsibility of ensuring the safety of every child; of respecting the values and diversity each family holds; of caring for each child with warmth and compassion; and always demonstrating honesty, caring, respect and responsibility.
